Public Relations Internships

AutoCom offers the opportunity to obtain valuable experience in the public relations field by working with international automotive and high-tech clients. Interns are fully integrated into the agency’s professional team and participate in regularly scheduled staff and client meetings.

 

The agency looks for interns with diverse backgrounds who can provide public relations support to a range of clients in the automotive and high-tech fields. We offer full-time internships paid with cost-of-living allowances for foreign students working in our Detroit area office.

What are your duties?

Work includes: media relations, Internet research projects, special event planning, copy writing and editing, and project management.

During this internship you will:

Effectively use trade tools such as wire services, distribution programs, the internet, trade publications and conduct general market research. Coordinate press release distribution and assemble press kits. Effectively use office systems and software programs.

 

Develop effective public relations writing tools including:

  • Research and creating of media lists

  • Press releases

  • Media advisories

  • Newsletter articles

  • Business correspondence

  • Executive biographies

  • Web site maintenance

  • Social Media

 

Assist in planning special events such as:

  • News conferences

  • Customer/employee events

  • Trade shows

  • Media training

 

Participate in professional activities such as:

  • Conference calls

  • Staff meetings

  • Professional group meetings

  • Brainstorming

  • Print production

  • Page layout

 

Develop media relations skills by:

  • Attending training sessions

  • Pitching stories of interest

  • Monitoring media and maintaining press files

 

Requirements?

Candidates must be computer and Internet literate, organized, have English proficiency, be self- disciplined and enjoy working with others. Good writing skills are beneficial, but not a prerequisite. Previous work and internship experience are considered valuable. The agency is interested in students in the field of communications or business, but is open to other qualified applicants as well.

Compensation:    International interns receive an allowance to help with housing and living expenses
